The five-spice mix is typical of traditional Chinese cuisine. In China, it is mixed with soy sauce. It flavored roast meats, marinades and poultry. The mixture is composed of the following spices: Sichuan pepper, star anise, cinnamon, cloves and fennel seed. However, some recipes have seven five spices spices, ex. 'Service Life Power', by adding cardamom and gingenbre.
Use: reduce the spices to a powder and then mixed with soy sauce. Coat the meat, poultry, etc.. before cooking.
